WAR veterans have been honoured for their contribution during the Second World War.

Twenty-seven Colne Valley constituents were presented with veterans' badges in the ceremony at the Royal British Legion Club in Golcar.

They received their specially-commissioned Ministry of Defence badges from Kali Mountford, MP for Colne Valley.

She said: "It is important that every veteran knows how much we appreciate their efforts and how much we value their contribution to a safer world."

The veterans attending were: Alan Boothroyd, Douglas Brown, Peter Bywater, Reginald Cannon, Wilfred Clarke, David Cuttell, Thomas Dean, Haydn Dyson, Catherine Eaves, Brian Gill, Maurice Spencer Gooch, Roy Hallas, Leslie Hobson, Philip Kaye, Hervey Mallinson, Arthur Derrick Mellor, Harold Mellor, Zdzislaw Nowcsielski, Neil Pogson, Terry Rose, Alan Sanders, Gladys Singleton, Brian Sykes, Winifred Mary Whiteley and J Woodhead.

Ben Carr, received a medal on behalf of his late grandfather, Herbert Morfitt, and Ethel Hirst on behalf of her late husband, Thomas Deakin.
