You can find all sorts of things in a front room.

But the two Huddersfield police officers had a pleasant surprise when they called at a house in Slaithwaite.

The officers were working with Kirklees Rural Neighbourhood Police on enquiries in the village and stopped to speak to a woman on her doorstep.

A spokeman said: “They were speaking to her when they heard an unusual noise coming from the front room.

“When they asked what it was, the lady invited them in and showed them three two-week-old lambs!

“Their Mum had died so the lady was weaning them. They’ll be returned to the farm in a couple of weeks. Awwww! #OnlyInRural.”
