A plume of water brought a dramatic scene to Huddersfield after a fire hydrant was opened.

Yorkshire Water says the incident at a yard in George Street, Milnsbridge , caused water to spray up in the air.

A spokesman said it was quickly closed, and there were no lasting problems.

The incident came just days after hundreds of homes and businesses lost water supplies when a water main near the junction of Edgerton Road and Blacker Road burst. Two schools - Birkby Infants and Birkby Juniors - both had to shut on Tuesday afternoon because there was no water for toilets and washing.
