A CHEEKY Huddersfield University student has found a watery way to stay out of the red - by selling rain!

The enterprising student is offering buyers across the world a chance to snap up some of Huddersfield's top-quality H²0.

The crazy `bargain' is for sale on internet auction site eBay.

The seller, who goes under the pseudonym of robclark80, boasts: "The cloud cover located permanently over Huddersfield is legendary, as are its random rain storms.

"Right now you can own a piece of Yorkshire - a real bottle of Huddersfield rainwater! Freshly fallen and ready to ship!

"Get yourself a proper piece of West Yorkshire. None of your friends will have this!"

The cunning idea is similar to that of Cardiff businessman John Gronow, who has started selling bottled Welsh air.

Expatriates missing the sweet, sweet smell of home can buy a bottle with a guarantee it was gathered in the Welsh mountains - for £24.

Welsh superstar Catherine Zeta-Jones is rumoured to have bought bottles as gifts for friends in the US.

Kirklees Council deputy leader Clr John Smithson was quick to sing the praises of a drop of refreshing Huddersfield rain.

He said: "I'm sure it would be top-quality water. Just look where it's come from.

"However, I don't know if I'd put my hand in my pocket and pay 99p for rainwater myself.

"But it shows enterprise - and that's to be welcomed. Good luck to the young man selling it!"
