DISABLED people in Huddersfield will have more opportunities to get involved in sport following six-figure funding.

West Yorkshire Sport has received £240,444 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inclusive Sport fund.

Across the country, 44 projects will benefit from £10.2m of National Lottery investment from the fund.

The “Creating Connections – West Yorkshire” project will use its funding to provide a link between health services, disabled people’s organisations and local sport.

This will include the introduction of local “activators” whose job will be to develop new sporting opportunities across all disabled groups.

West Yorkshire Sport chief executive Nigel Harrison said: “We are thrilled that we have been successful in bidding for the funding from Sport England.

“Over the next two years, it will allow us to make better the connections between health and other agencies and sports providers to create a real step change in the number of disabled people across West Yorkshire who are able to take part in sport”.
