ARCHITECTS have urged Britain to use the 2012 games as a "catalyst" for the regeneration of rundown areas of the capital.

The Royal Institute of British Architects said London's heritage had been recognised by judges as an integral part of the bid and claimed the "exciting" new designs, pictured above, would help transform the city.

Building work is set to create vibrant new areas around the Lower Lea Valley and the organisation said the capital must ensure the Olympics is used to change London's streets for the better.
