A TEAM of 120 youngsters is to represent Kirklees at a sporting event.

The youngsters, aged from eight to 16, will be taking part in the eighth annual West Yorkshire Youth Games at Leeds Metropolitan University on Sunday, June 25.

They will be among 1,100 youngsters from across the county competing in 13 sports.

Claire Howe, Kirklees Council's sports and development officer, said it was a major opportunity for young people.

She added: "For some it can provide a stepping-stone to representation at a national level."

This year's sports are athletics, diving, gymnastics, cricket, aquathon, netball, table tennis, girls' football, boccia, new age kurling, rugby union, tennis and badminton.
