A SPORTS club locked in a marathon planning row is in sight of the finishing line.
Battyeford Sporting Club at Mirfield has been trying for years to get planning permission for a new clubhouse and changing rooms.
The club moved a step closer this week, when it submitted a planning request to Kirklees Council for the site at West Mills playing fields, off Huddersfield Road.
The decision on the single-storey building will be made by February 21 at the earliest.
Building is likely to take six months.
The 400-member- club got planning permission to build a £448,000 clubhouse and changing rooms four years ago.
The new application makes slight changes to the original plan.
An offer of £313,000 from the Football Foundation was dependent on the club securing a 25-year lease from Kirklees.
The club will provide £60,000.
In 2004 the club thwarted plans by textile firm John Cottons to expand on to the land by organising a 4,500-name petition.
