SOCCER and rugby league players and officials from Huddersfield have joined the fight to stamp out racism in sport.

Players from Town and the Giants pitched in to sign the pioneering Sports Charter for Racial Equality (Score).

Any group, player, league or club using council-owned facilities for sport must sign up to Score as part of the booking arrangement.

If they break the agreement, a yellow and red card system ensures issues are dealt with.

Culprits found guilty of racism can face the ultimate sanction of a ban.

Kimiyo Rickett, head of Kirklees Culture and Leisure Services, said: "We are very keen to make sure all sports opportunities are available to everyone and that everyone taking part should be able to enjoy their sport free from intimidation, harassment and abuse."

Score is a joint scheme between the council, Kirklees Racial Equality Council and the Kirklees Sports Council.
