NEW changing facilities have been built at a Huddersfield recreation ground.

The rooms have been built at Standiforth Playing Fields in Dalton, thanks to an £80,000 cash injection.

The funding was approved by Huddersfield South Area Committee, and the new buildings will mean that players using the fields no longer have to get changed in their cars.

The new changing rooms replace the previous facilities which had been badly vandalised and eventually burned down.

Those previous facilities, which were wrecked in 2003, replaced earlier buildings which had also been extensively vandalised.

Clr Roger Battye said: “Special design and construction methods have been used to avoid that type of damage happening again.

“These are just the first steps in providing proper leisure facilities in the area, and we do have other plans that we want to implement.

“I believe it is better to do things bit by bit in order to reach a proper conclusion,” he explained.

The playing fields are used by football teams, including the Dalton Dynamoes and local pub teams, and it is hoped that more people will now use them.

A new fence has also been erected to stop motorbikes getting on the pitch and damaging the ground.
