SPORTS equipment designed to help pupils get fit and stay active has been delivered to a Huddersfield school.

The Sainsbury's equipment - including a football, hoola hoop, cricket bat and skipping rope - was brought to Newsome Junior School by the store's staff after the school collected an impressive 17,308 Active Kids vouchers.

The store's promotion began in March.

Teachers hope that the equipment will encourage Huddersfield children to get more active.

Store manager Paul Coulson said: "Sainsbury's Active Kids shows children that being active can be great fun, and eating well is really easy too.

"We're delighted to be here today to present the kids with all this sports gear.

"I'm sure it will revolutionise PE lessons at Newsome Junior School from now on."

Schools have made 30,000 orders using over 210 million vouchers - the equivalent of almost £17m of PE equipment.
