A WEEK of sports and games is being organised for young people during the half term holidays.

The activities for children aged eight to 13 are being held every afternoon from 1pm to 4pm from Monday, October 26 to Friday, October 30.

The sports sessions are being run by Kirklees Sports Development at Newsome High School and Sports College and Almondbury Sports Centre.

The council’s Girls Active programme will be at Newsome High School and Sports College on Monday, October 26, where girls will be able to have a go at dancing and cheerleading and learn non-contact Shokk combat moves.

On Tuesday, October 27, there will be multi-sports at Almondbury Sports Centre, Fernside Avenue, Almondbury. Cricket, football and basketball are some of the sports youngsters can take part in.

Activities return to Newsome High School and Sports College for the remainder of the week. On Wednesday, October 28, there will be multi-sports and on Thursday, October 29, youngsters can have football fun with skills, drills and competitions, and on Friday, October 30, the focus will be on cricket.

All the sessions are free and youngsters can just turn up on the day.

In Dewsbury, Kirklees Council is running the sessions for pupils of Westmoor Junior School in Dewsbury.

There will be football for boys and girls on Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27 from 10.30am to 3pm. Children will need to bring outdoor shoes, a packed lunch and a drink.

On Wednesday, October 28, there will be dance and cheerleading for girls from 1pm to 3.30pm in the sports hall. Participants will need appropriate footwear, a drink and a snack.
