PUPILS will be safer on the streets thanks to the generosity of a Huddersfield supermarket.

Youngsters at Spring Grove Junior, Infant and Nursery School will be easier to spot after being handed reflective discs to wear.

More than 100 discs were given to pupils from years one to three by the Asda store at Aspley.

They were donated to make the children more visible to motorists on the school run.

The move comes as AA statistics show around 5,000 children under 16 die or are seriously injured on Britain’s roads each year.

Store manager Gary Lees said: “We know we can’t stop such accidents taking place but we want to help prevent them as much as possible.”

Bibi Laher, headteacher at Spring Grove Primary School, added: “The donation of reflective discs to keep them safe on the walk home really supports what we want to achieve.”
