A GRAVY cube was the centre of attention at a collecting group's first meeting of the season.

The speaker at Denby Dale and District Collectors' Society meeting at Scissett C of E School was Mike Guille.

Mr Guille said that meat-extract Oxo originated in Germany as a way of feeding the poor in the 1800s.

It was then used to feed troops during World War One, with more than 100 million cubes being shipped to soldiers.

Mr Guille also displayed a range of Oxo items, such as mugs, packaging, jars, tins, cigarette cards and menus.
