BRIMMING with enthusiasm and having a passion for teaching is how colleagues describe Helen Ford.

The newly qualified teacher, who only started work at St Aidan’s First School in Skelmanthorpe in September has been shortlisted for a national teaching award.

Helen, 39, who began her career as a nursery nurse and qualified at Bradford University is a northern finalist in the BT Teaching Awards in the outstanding new teacher category.

Judges will be visiting the school on Monday to see her outstanding practice in action.

Headteacher Evelyne Barrow said: “The way she has completely transformed learning and teaching in our foundation stage is phenomenal.

“She was born to teach. She has striven long and hard for this moment. She said it was her dream come true and that shines through in all that she does every day.

“Her vision and purpose from the minute she enters the building from the minute she leaves and beyond is centred on the children, their learning their achievement and their well being.”
