FUNDRAISERS went round in circles to help a crumbling church.

Forty people did a sponsored walk around Norman Park in Birkby on Saturday.

The event raised about £500 for St Cuthbert’s Restoration Appeal.

Some £200,000 is needed to fund essential repairs to the Birkby church.

Worshipper Ted Firth organised Saturday’s fundraiser.

He said: “We had people of all ages who ran or walked or jogged around the park as many times as they wanted. We had elderly people and young people there, so everyone went at their own pace.

“It went very well, the weather was nice and we had a lovely morning.

“Some of us came in fancy dress as well. I was dressed as an Indian chief and there was also a belly dancer and a clown.”

Some participants managed 10 laps of the park, with each quarter-mile circuit taking around 10 minutes.
