THE £230,000 water cascade in St George’s Square has been turned off after one of its pumps broke down.

Kirklees Council is taking the chance to clean the water feature while it’s out of action.

The cascade is expected to be back on within a week.

The feature is a central part of the controversial £4m redevelopment of St George’s Square which opened last October more than a year behind schedule.

The water feature has been criticised because of staining on the granite frontage.
