THE good work done by murder victim Gurmail Singh is to be remembered by a community.
St Hilda’s Church in Cowcliffe – just 200 yards from the shop whe re he was beaten to death – will open at 3pm on Sunday, March 6, to allow people in the area to pay their respects.
Canon David Ward, Vicar of Cowcliffe, said: “An awful lot of people in this area had a lot of good things to say about Mr Singh. Many have come forward to say what a wonderful man he was and we decided to open up our church so that people of all faiths can come along and pay their respects, much as they did at the Sikh Temple last Sunday.
“No-one deserves to die in such a violent, horrible way.
“A lot of elderly people have told me how much they relied on Mr Singh during the bad weather, when his shop was a lifeline.
“It will be a time for remembrance, and we would welcome anyone who wants to come along”.
St Hilda’s Church is in Netheroyd Hill Road, Cowcliffe.
