REHEARSALS are well underway for St Mary’s Mirfield’s annual pantomime.

This year’s offering is Aladdin and director Laura Hawksworth says there’s plenty to recommend it.

She said: “It’s quite a traditional pantomime with great story and naturally some audience participation.

“We’ve got a brilliant Widow Twanky and lots of characters, including a harlequin and a fairy.

“It’s very much a community event and everyone involved is a volunteer.

“We use the money from last year’s production if we need any new props or costumes.

“This production has a particularly evil Abanazer and, of course, the forbidden love between the Princess and Aladdin.

“You can be guaranteed there’s lots of romance and magic.

Pictured here during the rehearsals are Sophie Lockwood (Aladdin, centre), with, from left, Megan Armitage, Amelia Johnson, Don Pryke, Shelley Pryke, Lydia May, Joseph Pope and Kendel Haigh.

The show premieres on Wednesday at St Mary’s Parish Centre at 7.15pm.
