POLICE investigating an attack in which a father was stabbed in the thigh have arrested a youth.

Stephen Hartley, 43, was also attacked with iron bars and a car crook-lock when he confronted youths after his 10-year-old daughter, Sharnie, had been kicked.

Mr Hartley was attacked outside his home at Ashenhurst Rise in Newsome shortly after 6.45pm on Sunday.

He suffered a cut to his head which needed five stitches and was bruised.

When he managed to get back home, he realised he had also been stabbed in the thigh, possibly with a screwdriver.

Police yesterday arrested a 15-year-old Newsome youth on suspicion of wounding.

He has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Further arrests are expected.

Ashenhurst Rise is in part of the area where police are imposing their special powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003.

The area also covers Lowerhouses, Longley, other parts of Newsome and parts of Aspley and Hall Bower.
