TEENAGER Stacey Elson thought about her own safety ... and won herself a mountain bike.

The Huddersfield youngster was among 50,000 pupils in West Yorkshire schools given special question and answer scratchcards in a challenge organised by West Yorkshire Police's community safety department.

She received her bike from Chief Supt Phil Read, head of West Yorkshire Police's community safety department.

The youngsters were faced with five questions dealing with the issues of theft, drugs, bullying, anti-social behaviour and young people's rights.

The police received 382 cards back with the right answers.

They were popped into a draw and 14-year-old Stacey's name was pulled out.

Stacey, of Crosland Moor, won a mountain bike.

The competition was designed to make young people think about personal safety, respect for others and reducing crime.

Chief Supt Phil Read, head of West Yorkshire Police's community safety department, said: "The competition will hopefully have helped young people think a bit more about what they would do in the situations they were given.

"It's vitally important to us to encourage young people to do the right thing from an early age as well as helping them tackle issues that they have concerns about."
