STAFF in Huddersfield have helped towards raising over £90,000 for a disabled children’s charity
Members of the local branches of Yorkshire Building Society raised almost £5,000 for its annual fundraising appeal Rising Starz.
This year’s appeal was in aid of children’s mobility charity Whizz-Kidz and nationally £90,000 was raised.
The appeal ran throughout December with Yorkshire’s staff, customers and members of the public taking part in a host of fundraising activities including raffles, book sales, cake bakes and the sale of mobile phone charms and Christmas tree decorations.
The donations from the Society’s branches in the Huddersfield area were matched pound for pound by the Yorkshire’s Charitable Foundation0.
The cash will provide customised wheelchairs or other types of mobility equipment for children across the UK.
The cost of providing this equipment means it is often out of reach to many families and disabled children have little chance of getting a powered wheelchair on the NHS.
The Rising Starz appeal was supported by former Emmerdale actress Georgia Slowe and The Office favourite Ewen Mac-Intosh.
The pair are pictured celebrating the results of the fundraising appeal with five-year-old Grace Wolstenholme, who has been helped by the Whizz-Kidz charity.
Georgia said: “I am absolutely delighted that the Rising Starz Appeal has been such a success. £90,000 is a fantastic amount to raise in such a short space of time and I’d like to thank everyone who took part and supported the appeal.”
