MORE than 10,000 people took a trip through the Standedge Tunnel last year.

And bosses at the Marsden tourist attraction are hoping for even more this year.

The longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in the UK will open its doors again today and bosses are hoping to top visitor figures.

Manager James Dean said: “Last year was a great year for us with over 10,000 visitors taking a trip into the tunnel, so we can’t wait to reopen for the 2010 season.” The Standedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre closes its doors over winter, but reopened today.
