Lifelong Star Wars fan Julie MacNaughton is to have her hair cut and dyed in the style of notorious intergalactic bounty hunter Boba Fett.

Or, to be more precise, her hair will resemble the helmeted head of the fearsome armoured fighter, played in the films by actor Jeremy Bulloch.

Boba Fett, hired by Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, has always hidden behind his distinctive helmet of five colours.

Julie, head of fundraising at the Hollybank Trust in Mirfield, rose to the challenge set by colleagues to raise money for the charity.

Knowing Julie’s devotion to the Star Wars saga – and her particular fascination with Boba Fett – they threw down the gauntlet.

And so on Saturday, March 5, Julie will visit Nichola Garland’s Cleckheaton salon, Headlines Hair & Beauty Studio, for a 50-minute transformation in which her hair will be cut, styled and dyed to resemble Boba Fett. Nichola is donating her time, expertise and products for free.

Julie said: “I’ve been a Star Wars fan for longer than I care to admit and I thought I’d seen everything associated with Boba Fett.

“But then I was told about the hairdo, which is just terrific. So when the challenge was issued I simply couldn’t say no.”

Julie will unveil her new look that night at a private party at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford and hopes to raise at least £500.

Imperial Stormtroopers – actually members of the UK Garrison of the 501st Legion, who give up their time to support charities and good causes around the UK – will be there to illicit money with menaces but all in a good cause.

The evening will include a raffle with themed prizes donated by supporters.

Ginny Tait, of the UK Garrison, said: “We are very proud of our charity work, which underpins what we do and why we do it. The UK Garrison is a not-for-profit organisation.

“When we attend events for charities, schools, hospitals and similar we do so to support their fundraising on the day.”
