A TOP guitarist will be the star guest at the 12th Marsden Jazz Festival.

John Etheridge will present his acclaimed tribute to Stephane Grappelli, Sweet Chorus.

He will also lead his eight-piece group, the Zappatistas, playing the music of Frank Zappa.

Some of the top names in jazz will be coming to the festival over the weekend of October 10 to 12.

Thousands of visitors are expected to travel to the village to soak up the atmosphere.

Festival co-ordinator Mike Lucas said: "Last year's festival was a sell-out and, judging by the interest already being shown in many of the concerts, tickets for this festival will be like gold dust."

The full programme is still being finalised.

But already booked is Britain's leading young jazz trombonist, Dennis Rollins, who will head his six-piece band, Bad Bone and Co.

Marsden will also play host to Stacey Kent, BBC Jazz Vocalist of the Year 2002 and international recording star.

Other performers already booked include Ben Crosland, Steve Lodder and Jim Mullen.
