LONG-running sitcom Last of the Summer Wine has attracted another American fan to Holmfirth.

The sitcom, filmed in and around the town, has a huge following in the USA and has lured several visitors across the Atlantic.

The latest, Liz Nichols from Virginia, is returning a second time.

Liz is the co-editor of www.summerwine.co.uk, a website set up in 2002 by Manchester web designer Mark Mallender.

The site is one of two main Summer Wine fan sites, the other being Holmfirth-based www.summer-wine.com.

While the Holmfirth-based site is run by a group of volunteers and is free, Mr Mallender's is for paying members.

The members submit their own articles and take part in a range of chat rooms and forum discussions. Mrs Nichols has helped the site develop links with fans in the USA.

Mrs Nichols last visited two years ago to celebrate Last of the Summer Wine's 30th anniversary.

To make her visit special, Mr Mallender has arranged several surprises.

He said: "We will give her a signed framed picture of the women stars of the series and she will be having lunch with series writer Roy Clarke.

"Tom Owen, son of Bill Owen, has also made plans to spend time with Liz during her visit. We have one or two other nice surprises," said Mr Mallender.
