HOLMFIRTH town centre was whitewashed briefly yesterday after a pot of paint fell from a Kirklees Council van.

Cooper Lane – a steep road off the main Huddersfield Road – looked more like a ski run as watered down paint flowed down the hill.

Businessman Andrew Bray, whose greengrocer is opposite the road, said: “I think they were going up to the park and a tin of emulsion fell out.

“I reported it to the council and they came back and cleaned it up. The council was very good.”
