THEY may be celebrating their diamond wedding but Kirkheaton couple Vernon and Joyce Secker are still dancing.

And it was at dances at Huddersfield Town Hall in 1947 that they first got together.

Mr Secker, 88, a retired joiner, and Mrs Secker, 87, a retired shopworkers, married on April 10, 1948.

The couple, who enjoy dancing at Moldgreen United Reformed Church and Shelley Village Hall, have three children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Joyce still keeps active by gardening and Mr Secker teaches carpentry for the University of the Third Age, which educates people no longer in full-time work.

The couple will celebrate 60 married years at Shelley Village Hall and Moldgreen United Reformed Church on Saturday with family and dancing friends.

Mr Secker said: “We’ve always done things together. That’s probably what’s kept us together so long. There’s not much we do apart. We used to go caravaning quite a lot and we like our gardening.”
