STIRLEY Community Farm is making a plea for more donations.

Members of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust-run farm off Ashes Lane in Newsome have been offered a £300,000 grant – and in order to qualify for the money they need to raise £30,000.

The trust is appealing to anybody who may be able to help to donate to the cause before the January 31 deadline. If successful the £300,000 grant will be made by the Veolia Environmental Trust.

The money will go toward restoring Stirley Farm’s old buildings, dry-stone walls and ponds. The amenity will be used to teach children about wildlife.

Having been launched in September with the help of Kirklees Council and Newsome Forum, the aim is also to make the derelict site commercially sustainable.
