A VILLAGE is demanding more action against speeding drivers.

Lepton residents claim cars are still hitting 60mph through the village - despite a new 30mph speed limit.

The limit on Wakefield Road was lowered from 40mph to 30mph on March 2 - just a day after a fatal accident.

Flockton man Neil Manby, 30, was killed when his motorcycle collided with a Rover car near the White Horse pub.

The change was not linked to Mr Manby's death.

Speed limits on other parts of Wakefield Road were also changed on March 2.

But villager Kevin McDonnell says he sees cars break the speed limit every day.

He said: "Speed cameras are the only solution. Action must be taken now, not after the loss of another life."

The 50mph limit from the RN Golden Subaru garage to Lepton village has been cut to 40mph.

The 60mph limit from the White Horse to the border with Wakefield is now 50mph.

The 60mph limit from Grange Moor roundabout to Flockton is also due to be cut to 50mph.

A Kirklees Council spokeswoman said the site did not meet Department of Transport criteria for a speed camera but surveys are being done to see if drivers were sticking to the new speed limits.
