A HUDDERSFIELD supermarket is searching for loyal customers to help its birthday celebrations.
The Market Street branch of Sainsbury’s is holding a series of events to mark the company’s 140th birthday.
And staff hope to find customers who can reminisce about the days before the introduction of self-scan checkouts, organic food and chip and pin.
Store manager Colin Meah said: “We’re looking for customers and colleagues who have interesting and quirky memories of the store.
“Better still, if anyone has any Sainsbury’s memorabilia which they’d be happy to share with us, we’d love to see it.”
The store will be holding special events running up to the Spring Bank Holiday, with customers getting the chance to write their memories in a book and try a special birthday cake.
The Nerve Centre, the charity the store is supporting this year, will also be there.
Anyone with stories to tell about Sainsbury’s should contact Mary Kitchen on 01484 514281.
Staff are keen to hear from Eunice Spencer and Howard Willcocks, the first customers into the store when it opened in 1982.
