A CAMPAIGN which encourages children to be `safe and seen' is being supported by a Huddersfield supermarket.

Morrisons at Waterloo has given 46 high-visibility jackets to Lepton Junior, Infant and Nursery School.

The specially designed jackets can be worn over a child's uniform, helping them to stand out.

Val Forbes, the store's general manager, said: "Every year hundreds of children get killed or seriously hurt on our roads.

"We are delighted to be able to donate the jackets, especially as it means helping to save lives."

The jackets aims to complement the Government's current campaign and are a fun and practical way of getting children actively involved in road safety.

Top tips:

* Bright or fluorescent clothes show up best by day, even in dull weather.

* Make sure your bike is properly equipped and working. At night cyclists should by law display a white front light, a red back light and red reflector at the back.

* Cross the road at the safest place; eg zebra, pelican or patrolled crossings.

* If you have to walk on the road face oncoming traffic.
