TORRENTS of water are said to be threatening to cause a landslide by undermining a rutted, unadopted road.

A 75-year-old disabled woman living on the Longley hillside beneath the track fears her property will bear the brunt of any collapse.

The woman, who does not want to be named, said drainage problems along the track, which runs parallel to Dog Kennel Bank, had become a lot worse since the Martin Bank housing development was built about five years ago.

Old maps show springs criss-crossing the former fields.

They have now been forced underground by the new homes.

Problems were brought into stark focus by last week's heavy rains.

The track was transformed into a virtual river during the storms.

The woman fears the track could simply wash away after being saturated with water.

"If we have really heavy, prolonged rain, something is going to give," she said.
