ARMED police arrested a man in a dramatic daylight swoop in Fartown.

Officers pointed weapons at a man and made him lie down in Dewhurst Road in front of stunned bystanders.

The drama happened this evening - less than half a mile from the scene of a shooting on Saturday.

Police are thought to have made the arrest on behalf of  West Yorkshire’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who are investigating the weekend shooting in which four people were hurt after shots were fired on Bradford Road on Saturday.

Three men were arrested earlier today to make arrests in the case then a total of ten. The inital seven people arrested by police have since been released on bail.

The incident in Dewhurst Road began about 5pm when police officers stopped a  26-year-old Bradley man who was driving a metallic blue Vauxhall Corsa.

He was made to lie in the centre of the road with armed officers in bulletproof vests covering him with guns.

Police cars sealed off both ends of the road.

The police also brought in a video van and a dog unit.

The Corsa car was loaded on to a trailer and taken away before the road re-opened at 6.15pm.
