A HUDDERSFIELD street is being plagued by flytippers and illegal dumpers.

Fridges, doors, sofas and even rotting meat has been left and resident Spencer Haynes, of Hillhouse Lane, Fartown, wants action following two years of misery.

The 26-year-old bank cashier said: “I can see the rubbish out of my back window. I feel embarrassed when my girlfriend or my mum and dad come to visit.

“And what if I wanted to sell my house?”

The flytipping on the unadopted road behind Hillhouse Lane began two years ago.

Mr Haynes said: “All sorts of rubbish gets dumped there including fridges, freezers and doors. At the moment there’s an old sofa and a bag of rotting chicken.

“I’ve also had to call the fire service three times because people were burning copper.”

Mr Haynes has contacted Kirklees Council more than 10 times to get the rubbish taken away.

He said: “They come and clear the rubbish but it soon piles up again. It’s an ongoing problem.

“I sent photos of the rubbish to Kirklees a few weeks ago, but it’s still there. The longest I’ve had to wait for them to come round is three weeks.”

Mr Haynes, who has lived on Hillhouse Lane for three years, wants more action from Kirklees.

He said: “I’d like to see weekly patrols by wardens or some kind of camera system set up so they can catch the people who are doing this.”

Clr Mehboob Khan, who represents the area on Kirklees, agrees.

He said: “We need to put a CCTV camera up so we can prosecute those who are flytipping. When I spoke to council officers about this they said that the flytipping was not doing sufficient environmental harm to justify a camera.

“I disagree, as this dumping is obviously effecting Spencer’s quality of life.”
