STREET traders could soon set up their stalls in Brighouse.

A council will next week look at plans to introduce street trading regulations in the town centre.

A report to Calderdale Council’s Cabinet says: “Allowing regulated street trading within town centre areas adds to the vibrancy and effectiveness of the street scene.”

Calderdale Council has already held consultation meetings with the town councillors, who identified areas street traders could be based.

Thornton Square was the ideal area, with the area off Canal Street, next to the market, also identified as a suitable secondary location.

But street trading would be restricted elsewhere in the town.

The report says allowing street trading in Brighouse, as well as Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and an extended area in Halifax, would generate £10,000 in income.
