NEIGHBOURS have lost the battle for permit parking in their street.

People in Brook Street, Moldgreen, claim they are being squeezed out by cars belonging to shoppers and pub-goers.

Twenty-one of the residents signed a petition calling for parking to be allowed only with permits.

But their plea has been rejected by Kirklees Council.

It could cost between £6,000 and £7,000 for public consultation and legal moves needed, a town hall meeting heard.

Council deputy leader Clr John Smithson said: "We're not saying there isn't a problem. But it has to be low on the priorities when resources are limited."
