HOUSING benefit payments will be delayed for thousands of tenants because of this week’s council workers’ strike.
Thousands of workers across Kirklees are on strike today and tomorrow in protest at a 2.45% pay offer.
Housing benefit payments for 4,000 tenants in Kirklees will be delayed because of the industrial action.
The council’s Cabinet member for finance Clr Andrew Palfreeman said: “We can only apologise for this short delay.
“Housing benefit payments would usually be prepared on Wednesday, but unfortunately the national strike action means we do not have enough staff time to complete this week’s work.
“Those tenants and landlords expecting a payment on Monday July 21 will not now receive their payment until later that week.”
Anyone needing an emergency payment can contact the Revenues and Benefits service.
