A JACK-KNIFED lorry caused massive traffic chaos today.

The driver had tried to turn around a small traffic island on Halifax Road in Birchencliffe at 8.25am - but got hopelessly jammed.

Things then got worse when a bus tried to edge past on the pavement and hit the stuck truck.

No-one was hurt in the incident, but it could not have happened at a worse time.

Halifax Road is the main road between Huddersfield and Halifax and thousands of morning commuters got stuck in the huge tailbacks.

Many ended up going on to the motorway down to Brighouse to get into Huddersfield via Leeds Road.

The lorry is registered to a company in Birmingham.

Recovery experts managed to shift the lorry shortly after 9.15am, but it took quite some time to clear the queues.
