STUDENT designer Alexander Woodward hopes to bag an award with his innovative idea.

Alexander, 22, who studied at Huddersfield University, has been shortlisted for the Daily Mail Ideal Home Show Concept Product Award 2005.

His Mobilis idea is a simple but strong handle designed to be a boost for anyone who has struggled home with heavy, pinching shopping bags.

Alexander from Worcestershire, is one of 15 finalists in the awards.

"Mobilis evolved through an exploration of personal security. People feel vulnerable when walking home with heavy shopping bags, he said.

"Studies have shown that people can carry double the number of shopping bags in one hand and they are now comfortable and safe."

He studied for his BSc in product design at Huddersfield.

"I am very excited to have been shortlisted for the award. This will be a great opportunity for me to show and get feedback on a concept that I see as a base for a future design."

His Mobilis will be showcased along with other finalists at the Daily Mail Ideal Home Show, which runs throughout March at Earls Court in London.

Visitors will be invited to vote for the product they believe has the potential for future design.

The winner will receive a prize fund to help transform their design from a concept idea into a high street product.
