STUDENT art has gone on show in Queensgate Market hall.

It is to show the work being done by young people to encourage more community links with the town centre.

And it has an added benefit – breathing new life into empty stalls in the market.

Kirklees Council has commissioned an art and design project for 75 students which invited them to come up with ideas on how public art could be included in public spaces within the town centre.

The participants, who range from ages nine to 21, all attend Huddersfield schools, colleges and the University. They include pupils from Moorlands and Birkby Junior Schools plus Royds Hall, Honley and Almondbury High Schools.

The exhibition panels give the flavour of the work of the young people and are placed on the empty stalls.

Clr Peter McBride welcomed the displays and said: “Huddersfield is a town centre which must appeal, provide opportunities and excite all generations. The images now in Queensgate Market Hall show what we can achieve with creativity”.
