STUDENTS have raced ahead with their project – thanks to a local engineering firm.
The group from Kirklees College had produced two racing buggies from scratch as part of the BTEC Extended Diploma in Manufacturing.
The students were then invited by Honley-based company Allsops to give their creations a professional finish. The firm put the buggies through the powder coating and painting process.
Kirklees College has worked in partnership with Allsops for three years, educating and training engineering apprentices.
The company was keen to show the five aspiring engineers what a real factory is like and the type of place they could be working in the future. Nick Parkins, 21, Robert Jefferies, 19, Josh Birkett, 20, Gareth Bunston, 19, and Dominic Longbottom, 19, took part.
Alister Bush, engineering learning assessment officer, said: “The partnership is just one of many the college is fostering with local companies.
“It is important to us because it gives the students a real glimpse into the industry.”
