GCSE students at a Holme Valley school have been learning how to drive.

Twelve pupils from Holmfirth High School have been getting into the driving seat in a bid to learn responsible road habits.

Pictured behind the wheel is Vikki Evans, with British School of Motoring instructor Paul Campbell and passenger Emma Knox.

BSM instructors and police officers are taking the youngsters as part of a youth award scheme.

The two-year course runs concurrently with their GCSE years. The school has been organising the scheme for some years now.

It allows pupils to tackle a range of non-academic subjects in different modules over the two years.

"It's quite an alternative course," said Miriam Thomas, youth award scheme teacher at the high school.

"We do a lot of different activities. We go and look at community activities, sport and leisure and expressive arts."
