DEWSBURY College held an award ceremony for their students on health, social care and child studies courses.
Relatives and friends were invited to the main hall of the college's Halifax Road campus for the ceremony.
The students received certificates for courses they had completed from level 1 through to level 3.
Also, for the first time an award for `Achievement in the Face of Adversity' was presented to two dedicated students, Sam Marples and Paula Gomersal.
Sam, 21 of Mirfield, completed the CACHE diploma in Childcare and Education despite two family tragedies, including the death of a relative.
Paula Gomersal, 18, of Chickenley, also lost two close family members while doing her second year of the Health and Social Care A Level but managed to maintain her course work very well.
Both were given the award for courage and determination to succeed.
Judy Cooper presented the awards, which were created in memory of childcare tutor Carole Jones, who sadly died of cancer in January 2006.
Health, Social Care and Child Studies Head of School Clare Farmer said: "It was a genuine reminder of the amazing achievements of the staff and students in this department."
