A STUDENT cooking his supper caused the evacuation of a block of Huddersfield flats today.
A pan of chips left on an electric hob in a flat at Snow Island, King's Mill Lane, Aspley, caught fire, causing smoke alarms to go off shortly after midnight.
Students on the third floor and in the rest of the block left the building shortly after 12.30am.
Huddersfield firefighters said the student had followed correct procedure and used a damp cloth to put out the flames.
