STUDENTS braved the plummeting temperatures to learn about countryside management.

Huddersfield Technical College students on the Countryside Management diploma course joined rangers at Oakwell Park, Birstall.

The are pictured building footpaths and they also helped with woodland management and building fences.

Head ranger Richard Aspinall said: "It is a fantastic way to get things done. We get to improve the site for the benefit of the public and wildlife and the students and other volunteers get to learn valuable skills.

"Oakwell Hall has recently won the prestigious Green Flag Award for excellence in green space management.

"It was also praised by the judges for its work with volunteers, students and community groups."
