A GROUP of students from Greenhead College, Huddersfield, has missed out on victory in a quiz to find the cleverest young West Yorkshire consumers.

They were among six teams from West Yorkshire schools that battled to be named West Yorkshire Young Consumers of the Year.

The competition, run by West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service, involved answering questions on food and health, safety and the environment, consumer and legal issues, travel and Europe and money and finance.

Hanson School from Bradford were the winners, with Greenhead College coming in fourth.

Holy Trinity School from Halifax were in last place - but won a multi-media computer package for being the team showing the most enthusiasm and team spirit during the contest.

Hanson School will now go forward for the national final of the contest in Brighton on June 22 at the Trading Standards Institute annual conference.
