THESE Huddersfield New College students formed a human chain to show their support for the Make Poverty History campaign.

About 700 students held hands to surround the college buildings on New Hey Road, Salendine Nook, to show their support for the campaign.

Make Poverty History - which is linked to the Live8 concerts which were taking place today - aims to get world leaders at the Edinburgh G8 summit on Wednesday to commit to cancelling third world debt, sending better aid and making trade with poor countries fairer.

Fifty staff and students from the New College joined thousands of people in Edinburgh today at the Make Poverty History G8 Rally.

They took a petition in support of the campaign, made from a bed sheet and signed by staff and students.

College principal Philip Forrest said: "This year gives a real opportunity to make a difference. Our students are determined that their voices will be heard by politicians at the G8 summit."
