AN exhibition by Huddersfield University art students is to tour five town-centre pubs in a bid to bring art to the people.

Art Crawl starts at Revolution on April 21, moves to Zetland on April 22, Zephyr on April 23 and MyMou on April 24.

The exhibition finishes with a private view at the Cotton Factory in front of Deputy Kirklees mayor Karam Hussain on April 25.

The exhibition features about 100 works, including sculptures, paintings and prints, by 24 fine art students from all three years of the degree.

Co-founder and second year art student Gemma Mountain said: “We want to get student artwork seen and to engage with the community. A lot of people don’t want to go to galleries. They want to relax and so we’re bringing art to them.”

The first Art Crawl toured six Huddersfield bars in May 2007.

Gemma, whose sculptures will feature as part of the exhibition, added: “Last year people actually came to see it. This year we were oversubscribed which was a really good thing.”
