PUPILS of Shelley College, in Huddersfield Road, Skelmanthorpe, have raised £775 for the survivors of the devastating tsunami on Boxing Day last year.

The money, raised by a non-uniform day and collections, will help rebuild a school in Sri Lanka. The project has been taken on by Rotary Clubs in Yorkshire.

Shelley College Council members (from left), Tessa Downs, Michael Butcher, Kieran Kitchingman, Olivia Thewlis and Tom Langston Smith are seen handing the cheque to the vice-president of Dewsbury Rotary Club, Ian Leask.

Assistant head teacher Dave Wads- worth said: "We are delighted at the amount we have raised. Rotary has told us it is the most to be raised by any of the schools who have been helping with this appeal so far, so we are very proud.

"Hopefully once the school is built we can keep in contact and see the progress."
